Our Lottery

If you and your child are looking for a high-quality middle school, please complete an application for admission in order to participate in our lottery. Once one of your children has been chosen in the lottery, the rest of your children will be automatically accepted to go to attend.

Parents of Students Grades 5-8

Any parent of a current 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grader can now apply for admission to Atmosphere. Completing this application guarantees your child a place in our admissions lottery, which will take place in April of 2018. All applications are due on April 1, 2018.

Parents of Students Grades K–4

Any parent of a student in kindergarten through 4th grade should not apply until their child is in 5th grade. In the meantime, those parents of younger children are welcome to complete our intent to enroll form, which will allow us to contact you when your child is old enough to apply.

Our Charter

Atmosphere Academy is a free public charter middle school that is located in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx. As a charter school, Atmosphere Academy has no tuiton but works independently of the established public school system. Each student learns in an engaging setting.

Lottery Overview

Eligibility

Any eligible application that is submitted is automatically part of Atmosphere’s admissions lottery – no additional action is needed beyond submission of a complete application. The Atmosphere Academy admissions lottery will take place in early April.

Prospective Atmosphere parents and students do not have to attend the admissions lottery since results will not be immediately available, but they are free to attend if they wish.

The lottery is completely random with select preferences built in. Lottery preferences are provided for:
• Siblings of current or accepted students
• Applicants who reside within the Bronx Community School District (CSD) 10

Notification

Anyone applying by April 1st will receive notification of lottery results by mail, email, and/or phone call in mid-April. If your child is not initially selected via the lottery system for immediate admission to Atmosphere Academy, he or she will be place on our waitlist. As we attempt to enroll those who were selected, we may need to draw from our waitlist to fill seats left vacant by those who might have moved or had other circumstances that prevent them enrolling in Atmosphere Academy. Those decisions will be communicated via mail, email, and/or phone call. The full results of the admissions lottery will be available on Atmosphere’s website in late April. There are two possible outcomes from the lottery – acceptance or placement on the waitlist. No one is rejected for any reason.

Acceptance

If you are granted a seat based on your random lottery number, you will receive information about how to enroll your child. During this process, you will need to confirm or provide key information that will Atmosphere to properly serve you and your child. We will also inform you of any orientations and summer sessions at this time.

Waitlist

If your child is not accepted during the initial lottery (as determined by his or her random lottery number), he or she will be placed on our waitlist. We will provide as much information as possible on the likelihood of your child receiving a seat. We expect that some children will be accepted off the waitlist. We update the wait list regularly and will notify you if your child becomes accepted.

Atmosphere only serves students in grades 6 through 8.

If you are the parent of a student in grade 5, please complete our application for admission.

If you are the parent of a student currently in grades K – 4, please let us know if you intend to enroll your child (or children) in Atmosphere Academy in the future.
